What to Expect in Colivings for Remote Workers and Digital Nomads

by | Oct 16, 2023 | Coliving Lifestyle, What is Coliving

After many years of having a nomadic lifestyle, staying in community-focused colivings are the best choice for accommodation to have the best experience when discovering a new place. Myself and others have had some incredible experiences, grown personally, and made amazing friends thanks to them. In this article, you will find insights on coliving for remote workers, along with some practical tips.

Community and experiences

I will start with the key point. One of the most rewarding aspects of coliving is the community. Living with like-minded individuals from around the world introduces you to diverse perspectives and opens your mind to new possibilities.

Here is a list of key points related to the community:

  • Having a built-in community eliminates the need to seek new friends when you arrive at a new location.
  • It also solves the problem of loneliness, which is a common issue for remote workers and digital nomads. You’ll have a group of people to share your experiences with, and your chances of feeling lonely are greatly reduced.
  • Having a dedicated community manager will make all the difference in a coliving space. They help organize events and activities, ensuring that there’s always something interesting happening.
  • The coliving activities are normally based on and proposed by the community. From workshops and hikes to skill-sharing sessions and social outings, the variety of activities depends on the community’s interests and the location.

Arriving at a coliving can be intimidating, especially for introverted people. The thought of meeting new people and sharing space with strangers might make you uneasy. However, within the first five minutes, you’ll likely realize that colivings are among the most welcoming and inclusive environments you can find. The other colivers are often friendly and understand your situation as they have already been there.

Living in easy mode

Colivings take away the usual worries of daily life.

  • You no longer have to stress looking for a place with reliable wifi, a comfortable bed, and a desk to work from.
  • Making friends becomes effortless since you have a built-in community from day one.
  • Plus, a wide range of activities is available, so you’ll never feel lonely.

Some of them even include daily meals so you can focus on your work and enjoy the food without thinking about cooking

Proper Co-working space

Colivings offer dedicated spaces for work, so you can focus without distractions.

This means in most of them:

  • You’ll have access to video call facilities.
  • Reliable Wi-Fi.
  • 24/7 access in case you have meetings at a different timezone.
  • Avoid commuting, as the coworking is inside the space.
  • Monitors to improve your work experience.
  • Ergonomic chairs to feel comfortable.

Shared Common Areas

Places to relax and socialize are also a must-have in coliving for remote workers. Shared common areas, such as kitchens and living rooms, encourage interaction and socialization.

These are the places where you will end up having the most interesting conversations and will get to know the other residents better. It’s a great way to connect and build relationships.

Normally, the kitchen is the heart of a coliving space. It’s not just a place to cook; it’s where colivers come together to prepare meals, share recipes, and prepare delicious experiments. You’ll find that conversations over a cooking evening or a shared meal can lead to lasting friendships and memorable experiences.

In some colivings, you can expect to find a dedicated whiteboard for community meetings where residents decide on upcoming events and activities for the week.

There are also rooms for chill and play. You might find cozy corners with bookshelves, board games, or even gaming consoles. These spaces offer a perfect balance, allowing you to relax, have fun, and bond with your fellow residents.

What is included in the price

All of the above comes with a cost, as colivings for remote workers and digital nomads are typically more expensive than a hotel or Airbnb. However, in my opinion, the extra cost is more than worth it.

Coliving costs vary depending on the type of accommodation you choose. Shared rooms are more affordable than private ones although you will sacrifice most of your privacy.

One of the advantages is that all your bills, including electricity, gas, water, and Wi-Fi, are included in the price, saving you time and effort.

In general, the price for a room can go from 400 to 2000 euros per month.

Be aware that the length of stay in colivings can differ based on their rules and your circumstances. Many colivings encourage longer stays (1month or more), offering discounts or setting minimum booking durations. However, some are more flexible, allowing short-term stays, even just a weekend. Also keep in mind that the longer you stay, the cheaper it becomes as they offer discounts for longer stays. You can search and filter by these values here in mapmelon.

Conclusions

In conclusion, I hope all of the above help you understand better what coliving for remote workers is. The coliving lifestyle has allowed me to grow and expand my horizons in ways I couldn’t have imagined. Staying in colivings has been a key part of this experience, providing a supportive community and essential amenities for my lifestyle.

I hope the above information has helped understand what to expect when you search for colivings and arrive at one.
