7 Things to Know Before Diving into the Coliving Experience

by | Aug 29, 2024 | Coliving Lifestyle

Coliving has become a popular choice for remote workers, digital nomads, and those seeking a community-oriented lifestyle. But before you join your first or next one, there are a few things to keep in mind to ensure you make the most of your experience.

Here’s what you should know before stepping into the world of coliving for digital nomads and remote workers

1. FOMO is Real, But Manageable

When you first arrive at a coliving space, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of constant social activities and events. There are all these new people and cool experiences you never did before, yoga, hiking, surfing, board games, workshops, parties, etc.

While it’s tempting to say yes to everything, it’s important to recognize when you need time for yourself. Learning to say no is crucial for maintaining your well-being and avoiding burnout.

Remember, it’s okay to take a step back and recharge or focus in yourself.

2. The Vibe Changes with the People

One of the unique aspects of coliving is that the atmosphere can shift dramatically as people come and go. The vibe of a coliving space is heavily influenced by the colivers, so don’t be surprised if the energy changes over time.

It’s also okay if you don’t click with everyone, just focus on making the most of the connections that feel genuine.

3. Don’t Be Afraid to Take the Lead

While coliving offers plenty of opportunities to join in on activities, don’t hesitate to initiate your own if you have a particular interest.

Whether it’s organizing a group hike, a movie night, or a cooking class, taking the lead on activities you enjoy can enrich your experience and help you connect with others who share your interests.

4. Know What You Want from Your Coliving Experience

The coliving landscape is diverse, with spaces for different lifestyles and preferences. Before choosing a coliving, be clear about what you want to gain from the experience.

If you thrive in a vibrant, social environment, a remote coliving in a rural area might not be the best fit. However, if you find yourself better in nature, here you can find the rural colivings for digital nomads and remote workers

5. Choose the Right Coliving for Your Goals

Each coliving space offers its own unique vibe and opportunities. Whether you’re looking to grow professionally, improve a skill like surfing or yoga, or simply enjoy a lively social scene, make sure the coliving you choose aligns with your personal goals.

While the residents may change, the core offerings and activities of the coliving space typically remain consistent.

6. Don’t Rush the Experience

To truly experience the benefits of coliving, give yourself enough time to settle in and engage with the community.

A stay of at least two weeks is recommended if you want to fully immerse yourself in the experience. Shorter stays might not allow you to form meaningful connections or fully enjoy what the coliving has to offer.

7. Set Clear Intentions and Stay Honest with Yourself

Before jumping into a coliving experience, set clear intentions about what you want to achieve and stay honest with yourself about your needs. Whether you’re seeking professional development, a strong community, or a relaxing environment, knowing what you want will help you find the right space and make the most of your time there.
